Structural Support & Bracing

Our Area of Expertise

When mature or high-value trees develop structural weaknesses—such as weak unions, heavy lateral limbs or partial splits—specialist bracing and cabling systems can provide discreet, non-invasive support. Structural Support & Bracing help reduce the risk of structural failure while preserving the tree’s natural form and retaining important visual, ecological and cultural value. They allow trees to remain safely in place without the need for excessive pruning or removal.

Our approach begins with a detailed inspection to determine the nature and extent of the structural concern. We assess species characteristics, loading forces, cavity formation, decay presence and the tree’s overall condition to decide whether dynamic or static support is most appropriate. Dynamic systems allow controlled movement and natural sway, encouraging the tree to develop strength over time, while static systems provide firmer, more immediate restraint in higher-risk situations.

All installations are carried out by trained professionals using industry-approved materials and techniques. We ensure the system is positioned correctly to distribute loads safely, minimise abrasion and avoid damage to the tree’s living tissues. Where needed, bracing may be combined with selective pruning to reduce weight and further manage risk.

Ongoing monitoring is essential, and we provide periodic inspections to assess system condition, tension, and tree response. This ensures continued effectiveness and full compliance with BS3998:2010 Tree Work – Recommendations, which emphasise minimal intervention, appropriate system selection and regular review.

Our structural support services offer a balanced, conservation-led solution that keeps mature trees safely standing while respecting their long-term health and landscape value.

If your tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or in a Conservation Area, permission is required. We can check this for you and help with the application if needed.
