How much wood you’ll need over a winter depends on how often you light your fire and how well your home holds heat. As a rough guide:

• Just weekends and the odd evening: one to two loads for the winter.

• Most evenings through the colder months: two to four loads.

Because our logs are properly dried to 20% moisture or less, you get more usable heat from each load than from cheaper, damp wood. Tell us how often you use your stove when you order and we can recommend a sensible starting amount so you’re not constantly running out.

• Stack your logs off the ground on pallets or a raised base.

• Keep the top covered from rain, but leave the sides open so air can move through the stack.

• Avoid wrapping the pile in plastic or shutting it in a damp, unventilated shed.

• Bring only a small amount indoors at a time, and keep it away from your stove or open fire.
